KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Sony television owners who had blue blobs blocking out their TV screen got help after our stories exposed the problem. Now, one owner needs our help with his replacement TV.
One bad TV is hard enough to deal with, so you can imagine the frustration for a metro man that's had two Sony's go bad.
It all started with a blue blob. When we exposed the problem , and the costly repair to fix the broken optical block Sony helped owners across the country .
"Before I called you Sony wouldn't talk to me," Kansas City Sony owner Bud Cheney explained.
Sony offered customers a reduced price to get the optical block repaired or a deeply discounted TV. Cheney chose a new TV, but he didn't like the model Sony offered.
He tried to negotiate, and it ended up costing him.
"They didn't negotiate. By the time we were ready to purchase they were out of them and no longer had the models," Cheney explained.
Cheney had to settle for what he considered to be a lesser TV, and it came with even bigger problems.
Replacement TV has problems
"On this TV there's shadowing. It's almost like there are some lines across here and it makes a big oval that comes up," Cheney said.
Cheney says a diagnostic company estimated repairs at $2000. This brand new TV needed a new panel.
Frustrated once again, Cheney called for action!
"Once you got involved they called me and said they have a resolution for me," Cheney said.
Not only did we fix this problem for Cheney, we got him the TV he wanted all along.
"Now we're going to get the good TV with your help. You're fantastic," Cheney explained.
Cheney is happy he can finally relax and enjoy television.
"NBC Action news is fantastic. I appreciate your help," Cheney said.
Sony said its records showed Cheney was still reviewing the offers for a replacement and Sony was waiting for his return call. Sony's Public Relations Manager Elizabeth Boukis wrote in an email, "Your message prompted a follow-up."
Some Sony owners are not happy with the offers they're getting so they're taking the company to small claims court. Sony says it can't replace everyone's TV as they are out of warranty. Some warranties have even been extended to address the problems.
If you have this blue blob problem, you need to call Sony to get an offer to fix it.
