KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Moms across the Kansas City area are finding the best deals on used toys and clothes for their children who seem to grow inches overnight.

If you’re looking for gifts for your kids this holiday season and you’re on a budget, there is an option for you in Kansas City that won’t break the bank.

Take it from Melissa Schroeder and Katelyn Logan. They are two Kansas City moms who manage Rhea Lana’s Consignment Shop. It’s a pop-up consignment shop in Overland Park for children. Both moms always shop second hand for their kids.

"I want to find the best thing that's out there but I'm not going to pay $50 or $60 dollars for an outfit for my 6-month-old that’s going to grow out of it in no time," said Schroeder.

Schroeder and Logan said they find deep discounts on children’s clothing and toys at second hand stores throughout the Kansas City area.

"Every mom likes to hear a compliment, you know, when their little boy or little girl looks darling that day,” said Schroeder.

Both moms said there is surge of second hand children’s stores in the area where shoppers can find fashionable clothes and great toys at 80 percent off the retail price.

"My youngest wore a pair of True Religion jeans that retail for $88 dollars and I bought them for $19 dollars. Stride Rite shoes retail for $45 or $55 dollars which you can buy for $7 or $8 dollars," said Logan.

Like many families, Schroeder and Logan said it is expensive to continue to buy their kids new clothes as they grow out of them. The two moms said there are second hand options for families on any budget.

"For those people that are on a little bit of a tighter budget, it's nice to know that you can go to places like any of the area consignment sales and they do carry Walmart and Target and those brands at a fraction of the Walmart and Target prices," said Logan.

Logan and Schroeder use online resources such as consignmentmommies.com to scope out of the latest consignment sales in the area. They also suggest Children's Orchard, Goodwill, and the handful of thrift stores along Wornall Road in Kansas City.
