KANSAS CITY, Mo. - As the clock ticks away the final days of 2011, time is also ticking away on the Federal energy-savings tax credit. Over the last three years, homeowners have had the opportunity to cash in at tax time if they invested in energy efficiency for their homes.
Some of things covered by the credit include new heating and air conditioning systems, heat pumps, indoor fans and attic insulation. After Dec. 31, the tax benefits for those items expire.
The sales manager at A.B. May says that company is preparing its installers for extra work in case of an onslaught of last-minute orders. But thus far it has yet to see a big push.
Next year, a federal tax credit will still be available for items like a ground source heat pump or solar heating, cooling, and water.
