KANSAS CITY, Mo - Seventy employers are scheduled to appear at a Kansas City job fair Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri.
The JobNewsKc job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Kansas City CoCo Key Water Resort, 9103 E. 39th St.
The attending companies are looking to fill more than 500 positions, ranging from retail associates, medical assistants and accountants.
Job fair organizers suggest you dress to impress and bring plenty of resumes.
Parking and admission to the job fair is free.
More than 900 people pre-registered for the job fair, organizers expect to host more than 1,500 jobseekers.
Jobs in the heartland are more crucial now than ever, with Missouri's unemployment rate at 7.2%, Kansas' unemployment rate at 6.7%, and in the greater Kansas City area specifically, 6.8%.
Jobseekers we spoke with say they're having to compete with others who have similar or better qualifications.
"Even though I have a college education, I feel like everyone out here is looking for the same jobs as I am. So the market is pretty competitive", said jobseeker Calli Green.
"I've been looking at several companies here in Kansas City, but the ones that pertain to what I want to do are few and far in between. I thought that coming out here I could brighten my horizon", added jobseeker Sam Milholland.
