AKRON, Ohio - The owner and operator of an Akron restaurant died Friday, hours after meeting President Barack Obama.
Josephine “Ann” Harris, 70, hosted the president for breakfast at about 8:30 a.m. at her namesake restaurant, Ann’s Place.
Harris was later rushed to Akron General Medical Center and was pronounced dead of natural causes at 11:18 a.m., the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Obama shook hands with diners and Akron Beacon Journal reporter Stephanie Warsmith said Obama even hugged Harris before eating pancakes and eggs at the Hawkins Avenue restaurant.
The Akron Beacon Journal reported that "the president said that his grandmother's name was Ann."
The ABJ interviewed Harris after the president's visit and described her as ecstatic.
The president then headed to Poland, Ohio, near Youngstown, and then to Pittsburgh.
