KANSAS CITY, Mo. - At least three ambulances were on scene at an SUV rollover accident on Westbound 435 and 103rd Street in Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers say a black Ford Explorer hit the soft shoulder and rolled over. The SUV then slid out of control and the children were thrown from the vehicle.
Investigating officers determined the tread on one of the SUV's tires may be to blame.
Nine people total were injured including five children with minor injuries, three children with serious injuries and one adult with serious injuries.
The children were taken to Children's Mercy Hospital and the adult to Overland Park Regional.
The oldest child is at least 14-years-old and the youngest child was in a small car seat.
Police said one of the adults had the most serious of injuries with a collapsed lung.
Initially, only the far left lane of WB 435 was open, but officers gave the all-clear around 8:00 p.m., allowing traffic in all directions and lanes.
