OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - An alert Overland Park police officer spotted a vehicle Monday night and made an arrest in a hit-and-run incident that critically injured a teenager.
A police spokesman said the officer noticed the front end damage on the vehicle and stopped the driver.
She was taken to the Johnson County Adult Detention Center.
Skyler B. Smith, 21, is charged in Johnson County with failure to stop at an accident with great harm and driving while suspended, according to online records.
The hit-and-run occurred just after 11 p.m. on June 10 at West 123rd Street and Nall Avenue.
A witness told police the 18-year-old victim tried to run across Nall Avenue and was hit by the vehicle.
He suffered critical injuries, but is expected to recover.
His name was not released.
