KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Women and families concerned about the serial rapist are turning to home security companies for help.
Atronic Alarms in Lenexa says demand has quadrupled in the last month. Brinks Security has seen a 20-percent spike in business in the metro area since November. And an ADT spokesperson says Kansas City is one of the company's leading markets.
All three providers say the calls are concentrated in and around the Waldo area.
Todd Harrison, Operations Manager for Atronic Alarms says he got calls from two concerned women Tuesday morning.
"One lady sleeps very heavily, and she's not sure she would hear someone break in. I had one client who wouldn't move in until the security system was installed. Eveyone's talking about it, they are very nervous," said Harrison.
While an alarm can give people peace of mind, Harrison says you need to do your homework on the security company. Atronic Alarms does extensive background checks on each and every employee before they are hired.
Harrison says his systems run from $500 and up. He say if you don't have a land line, there are home security systems that work with wireless phones.
Other companies offer free installions as long as you sign up for a multi-year contract.
