KANSAS CITY, Missouri - A careless thief gets more than eight years in prison after robbing a bank, but forgetting the money.

Clifton D. Taylor was sentenced to eight years and nine months without parole after attempting to steal $2,700 from Central Bank in Kansas City on March 12, 2009.

Taylor entered the bank, 2301 Independence Ave., around 12:20 p.m. and approached the teller’s window with a note demanding $3,000 or “somebody out here get shot. 20 seconds”. The teller quickly handed the man $2,700 in cash.

The bank employee went to lock the doors and noticed two employees that were returning from lunch.

She immediately told them that the bank had been robbed.

While on the phone with police, the two men followed Taylor in their cars as the suspect traveled on foot.

Taylor soon discarded his leather jacket and hat in the back of a stranger's pick-up truck.

After his change in appearance, he continued to a cell-phone store just two blocks from the bank he robbed.

Once in the store, he attempted to purchase a cell-phone, but realized the money in his pocket was gone.

After the robbery, it took police just seven minutes for police to arrest Taylor.

Later, a nearby resident found the $2,700 in the black leather coat that was left in his pick-up truck.
