Burglar elbows victim in face, escapes with guitar and other property

SHAWNEE, Kan. - A burglar hit a woman in the face with his elbow Sunday night to escape with the victim's property.

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. in the stairwell of Pinegate West Apartments, 6530 Barton Circle in Shawnee, police said.

The 54-year-old woman told police she went to her car to check on paperwork..

She was walking up the stairs and spotted a tall, thin man coming down the stairs with her Mickey Mouse guitar.

The woman screamed at the man and he hit her in the right cheek with his elbow.

The blow sent her into a metal stair rail and she injured her back, police said.

The burglar also took all the medicine from the woman's bathroom, police said.

Police set up a perimeter to try to catch the suspect, but he escaped.
