KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Authorities have identified the man shot and killed by a Rockhurst University security guard as he waved a gun at passersby after a traffic accident.

Police say 23-year-old Chandler T. Guinn Jr., of Kansas City, Mo., was in a white car that rear-ended another vehicle near 52nd and Troost just after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said Guinn got out of his vehicle with a gun.

An employee at a nearby business came outside to see if anyone needed help.

“(Guinn) actually chased him around with the gun, pointing it at him,” Snapp said. “That’s when the security guard showed up. Thank goodness he was there at the right time. He probably saved some lives.”

The university security officer shot him in the chest.

Calls and emails to Rockhurst University seeking comment have not been returned.
