KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A local group hopes to stop violence here in the city through the power of basketball.

Sunday night, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament was held in the 2900 block of Askew Ave in Kansas City.

It's part of the Stop the Killing initiative to get community members to put down the guns, and grow closer together.

"We can show people we're not animals, we're people. When we come together it makes people happier. When they see that everybody's together and not just killing each other", said Stop the Killing member Antwon Jones.

Stop the Killing says it hopes to reduce violence in Kansas City by 25 percent and the murder rate by 30 percent.
