KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The third defendant in a 2007 murder found out Friday he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Richard Cooper took part in a drive-by shooting that killed Eliseo Thomas and wounded three others near East 30th Street and Agnes Avenue
Police officers in the area heard gunshots and went to investigate, according to police reports at the time.
They saw three men getting into a vehicle and drive away.
During the ensuing car chase, a man leaned out the window of the fleeing vehicle and shot at officers. Several police cars were hit, but no officers were injured.
Cooper and the two other men, Markus Lee and Rayshawn Taylor, jumped out of the car and tried to run. The men were quickly captured.
Police found Thomas with a gunshot wound. He died a short time later from the gunshot wound. Three others were also shot, but survived.
Rayshawn Taylor was sentenced to life without parole for his role in the murder and shootings.
The final defendant, Markus Lee, was shot and killed in October 2011 in Kansas City, Kan.
