KANSAS CITY, Kan. - An escaped prisoner ran through the streets in his boxers before getting apprehended in downtown Kansas City, Kan.
The inmate, who faces first-degree murder charges, was being taken from a Wyandotte County courtroom back to a holding cell when he attacked the female deputy guarding him Wednesday afternoon.
He smashed her head against the wall and grabbed her cellphone, went outside, stripped off his prison jumpsuit and was seen running through downtown in only his boxer shorts and shoes.
An off-duty police officer spotted the escapee near 6th Street and Ann Avenue, where he managed to wrestle him to the ground. Sheriff's deputies arrived soon after and took the prisoner into custody.
He was injured and taken to an area hospital.
