KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A person of interest may be charged in the apartment fire that killed a woman and her young niece in Kansas City, Kan.
The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office will hold a 1:30 p.m. news conference, where charges are expected to be announced.
The fire killed 34-year-old Brandi S. Johnson and 2-year-old Amiyah McClenton. Authorities said they believe the fire started on the upper floors of the apartment complex early Saturday morning.

When they arrived, Johnson was dead and McClenton was suffering from critical injuries, including smoke inhalation and burns. McClenton later died at the hospital.
Prosecutors said they have one person of interest in custody.
McCelenton’s aunt, Norenda Kearney, said the family has spent days in tears and shock. She said they are eager for charges to be filed.
