Grandview, Mo. - Police said a father left a 2-year-old child in a moving car after a 100 mph chase with officers Sunday morning.

According to police, a Grandview officer saw a red 2003 Dodge Stratus traveling on the access road south of Blue Ridge at about 4:30 a.m.

The officer tried to pull the car over before the vehicle entered southbound lanes of 71 Highway and reached speeds of more than 100 mph.

Police said the driver got off the highway at 140th Street and the officer stopped chasing the driver. Later, the officer found the vehicle still rolling in the 14400 block of the access road.

Once the vehicle stopped, the officer found a 2-year-old boy inside the car. The boy was not in a car seat. Grandview and Kansas City officers searched the area for the driver. They found a 23-year-old nearby in a creek, hiding in waist-deep water.

Authorities were able to identify the 23-year-old as the child's father. He was transported to Research Hospital suffering from hypothermia. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The child is now in the custody of the Division of Family Services.

Police are still investigating the incident.
