KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Police say four men admitted to shooting a weapon about the time 11-year-old Blair Shanahan Lane was fatally shot on the Fourth of July.
The shooting happened near 43rd and Pittman. Police say Blair collapsed as she and other children were in the backyard setting off fireworks.
It was initially called in as a fireworks accident, but police later discovered it was a shooting. She died the next evening .
During a canvass the day after the shooting, officers found a weapon. Investigators were able to identify four men in connection to the weapon.
The men admitted they were shooting the weapon across Riss Lake to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Police have the weapon in possession, but the men have not been arrested. Police are continuing their investigation.
