Jamone Boyd, Lee's Summit West football player, tased and arrested for marijuana possession

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - A Lee’s Summit West High School football player was arrested on suspicion of drug possession on Monday.

The Lee’s Summit Police Department said Jamone Boyd, 18, was arrested at school after a school administrator found marijuana in his car. Police said the administrator and a school resource officer were talking to Boyd after the discovery when he tried to run.

The resource officer used his Taser gun, but police said it didn't work because of Boyd’s large coat. Police said the 6 foot, 4 inch defensive end continued running off campus, and that’s when the resource officer used his Taser a second time.

After the second Taser shot, the officer said it appeared that Boyd was going to resist again, so he pulled his handgun as a precaution, according to the police report. He was then arrested and taken to the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

He was given municipal citations for resisting a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana. According to police, neither Boyd nor the officer were injured in the incident.

Boyd is a heavily recruited football player for Lee’s Summit West. According to ESPN’s Recruiting Nation, Boyd is the 2nd best senior in the state and 16th nationwide for defensive ends. He’s ranked 193rd in ESPN’s top 300 players nationwide.

Recruiting Nation reports Boyd has received offers from Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Tennessee and Washington State. Yahoo Rivals reports he made an official visit to the University of Nebraska on Oct. 26.
