KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A Kansas City, Kansas Police Officer was injured Friday night during a pursuit with a suspected prowler.

Police were in the 900 block of Argentine Boulevard around 5 a.m. trying to locate the prowler from a previous call, according to a statement released by the department.

A person matching the suspect description was entering a vehicle when police approached him. Police say the suspect then tried to flee, and the officer became lodged between the door and the suspect.

After the suspect started accelerating, the officer lodged in the door fired his weapon, hitting the driver. He was then able to dislodge himself from the vehicle, according to the statement.

The suspect crashed into a nearby parked car. Both the suspect and the officer were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police said the department’s Major Case Unit is investigating the case.
