KCPD releases dashcam video of response in Jovan Belcher shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police have released dash cam video from the unit that responded to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice facility after linebacker Jovan Belcher showed up with a gun.

The video is posted on the Kansas City Police Department's YouTube channel.

While on the way to the scene, dispatchers name Belcher as a possible suspect. In the video, an officer requests a rifle.

Officer: Cut off sirens immediately. I have a sighting from afar. It looks like they are in negotiations, trying to get him (inaudible). I need a riffle ASAP.

Officer: I’m trying to sneak up on foot and get an eye on him. I need a rifle now. Turn off the sirens. I can hear one in the distance. Now.

Belcher had shot and killed his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins, at the home they shared before driving to the practice facility and shooting himself. He and Perkins had a 3-month-old daughter together.

In another dash cam video released by police, officers are shown checking on Belcher, who was found sleeping in his car outside an apartment building just hours before the shootings.

Before he committed suicide, Belcher reportedly thanked the team's general manager Scott Pioli and coaches Romeo Crennel and Gary Gibbs for everything they'd done for him.
