LEXINGTON, Mo. - Authorities in Lafayette County, Mo., say they questioned a person of interest Wednesday night in the murder of a 10-week-old child.
The unidentified infant died May 20 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., according to a statement from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office were called to an unspecified address on Linn Road in southwestern Lafayette County on May 17 at about 6:30 p.m., the statement said.
The infant was unresponsive and was experiencing shortness of breath.
Emergency crews took the child to St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs and then to Children’s Mercy, where he or she died.
An autopsy performed by the Jackson County Medical Examiner on May 21 found the infant sustained numerous broken bones, including a skull fracture, contusions and brain damage.
