LAWRENCE, Kan. - State officials granted an emergency shut down of a Lawrence day care after police found drugs inside.
Records show police found drugs and drug paraphernalia in The Children's Playpen on Lake Street during a raid. Police said their search warrant suggested the day care provider, Tiffany Hubbard, may have been dealing drugs during business hours. Police raided the home Wednesday.
Neighbors said police cars lined the street during the raid early Wednesday morning before any kids would normally be at the facility. Neighbors watched as police carried out bags of evidence. Some neighbors said they were not surprised drugs were found in the home.
State officials in charge of licensing providers said there is no history of significant violations. Hubbard has not been formally charged as a result of the raid.
The KBI lab has to process what officers found during that raid before charges can be filed. That could take weeks.
