LENEXA, Kan. - Aja Woods said last Thursday night was her first time at Saints Pub + Patio in Lenexa, but it’s a night she’ll never forget.
Woods said she saw something odd as she walking to her car around 1 a.m.
“I knew immediately what was going on; it's just something where you look over and you know what’s going on,” said Woods.
She said a woman was running from a parked vehicle and then she saw Erick Wanjiku pulling up his pants.
“She said, 'He raped me,'" said Woods.
This happened in the back parking lot. Woods said the victim ran to the front of the building to get bar security, but Woods got into her car.
“He started to walk away, so I decided to follow him in my car,” said Woods. “I backed the car out, pulled up on him, rolled the window down and he’s like ‘Can you give me a ride. I need help.’ I said, ‘Sure.’”
Picking up a suspected rapist is something most wouldn't do, but Woods said she used her unique style to her advantage.
“I said, 'OK come on, come on,’ and that's what made him comfortable with me until I turned the car around,” said Woods.
She said she drove him back to where the bar bouncers were looking for him. They got him after a struggle.
The police showed up shortly after and arrested Wanjiku.
She said it might have been a dangerous move, but she’s glad he’s behind bars.
“The way I look at it, it could have been my sister,” said Woods.
Wanjiku is in the Johnson County jail on a rape charge.
