UPDATE | The baby was returned to her mother before 5 p.m. Friday.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A man facing jail time fled from the Wyandotte County Courthouse with a 7-month-old baby girl in his arms Friday morning.

A Wyandotte County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said Robert Ingram, 23, came into court carrying the baby, whose name is Layla.

The child is not believed to be in danger, police say.

Police originally thought the baby was Ingram's but later told 41 Action News they were not sure if the baby was his.

Ingram found out his probation would be revoked and he would be returning to jail.

He was charged September 19, 2009, with the sale/distribution/cultivation of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or designated stimulant.

A sheriff's department spokesperson said Ingram had not been complying with the terms of his probation.

The judge said Ingram would be headed back to jail and told Ingram to call someone to pick up the baby.

Ingram acted as if he was making a phone call when he ran from the courtroom, the sheriff's spokesperson said.

He jumped into a waiting silver Pontiac Grand Am that had the passenger door open. The car has since been found, but Ingram remained at large.

The car belongs to Ingram's mother, but his mother was not driving the car.

Ingram is described as about 6 foot 2 and 170 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and black pants.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Department at (913) 573-2861.
