KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A young man is dead after an early-morning shooting on the city’s East Side.

Police were called to a home in the 3700 block of East 29th Street about 4:30 a.m. on a report of gunshots.

Arriving officers found the body a man in his mid-20s in the yard, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses said a man shot the victim and fled on foot.

This is the city's 71st homicide of 2012, compared to 76 at this time last year.
