KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City woman faced a judge for the first time Monday morning, days after police found her daughter trapped in a closet and severely underweight.
Jacole Prince, 29, didn't show any emotion on her face as she stood in front of a judge today. In fact, she barely spoke.
The judge entered a 'not guilty' plea on her behalf for three felony counts of child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. She'll be back in court in July.
On Friday, the stench of urine led officers to find her 10-year-old daughter in a bedroom closet, blocked by her sister's crib. The doors were tied shut.
The girl weighed just 32 pounds.
Enraged neighbors said their own children played with the little girl's two sisters. They said Prince, was always outside and talking with neighbors and that her boyfriend was there almost every day.
That boyfriend was originally taken into custody with Prince. He has been released and was not charged.
The little girl is slowly progressing at a local hospital and has told officers she doesn't want to go back home.
