KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The boyfriend of a woman charged in the abuse of her 10-year-old daughter was arrested Thursday night, Kansas City Police said.
Police arrested Marcus Benson about 8 p.m.
He's charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Benson appeared in Jackson County court at 11 a.m., Friday, and pleaded not guilty to both charges. He is expected to be back in court on August 9.
Benson is the boyfriend of Jacole Prince, the mother of the child found locked in a closet in late June in an east Kansas City apartment.
The little girl, identified only as LP, weighed just 32 pounds and was wearing a size two toddler shirt.
Police found feces and urine in the small closet.
The child had not been to school in nearly five years, according to records.
Prince had two other daughters who lived with her.
Both of those were well-fed and well cared for, according to court documents.
Those children have been placed in protective custody.
Jacole Prince will be back in court next month.
The case brought an outpouring of support for the girl.
One local agency has received cards, monetary donations and gifts.
