KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A person of interest is in custody in connection with a sexual assault reported on the Trolley Track Trail Tuesday afternoon.
A woman in her early 20s told authorities she was walking on the trail around 2:30 p.m. when a man jumped over a retaining wall near 85th and Troost and assaulted her. She went to a nearby tattoo parlor, where she reported the crime.
She described her attacker as a man in blue shorts and a blue shirt. Police found someone matching his description at 84th and Paseo a short time later. While he is currently in custody, he has not been charged at this time.
According to Drew Young, a tattoo artist at Xcelerated Ink, the victim came into the lobby and started pounding on the glass.
He said she told him she was a college student and lives in the area.
"She (was) all bloody and she said she ran from the trail right down the street and the guy tried to rape her, so I immediately grabbed the phone and called 911," Young said. "(I) got her cleaned up a little bit until police got here."
