KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Police are looking for clues inside the SUV that belonged to Nick Dutcher who was found dead inside his Ruskin Heights home Tuesday.

Nick Dutcher, 30, was an assignment editor at NBC Action News .

Nick's car was found Wednesday evening on the 4200 block of 56th Terrace which is several miles from his home. Police say it was found during a routine check of the neighborhood. Neighbors say the car had been sitting there since Tuesday.

Nick's car is being processed at a facility near I-435 and Front Street.  Police are looking for finger prints, hair and any other evidence that might help them find the person who murdered him.

Officials say finding Nick's car might also help them figure out where his killer lives.  Once investigators finish going through the car Thursday afternoon, they will process any evidence they find inside.  That part of the investigation could take hours or even days depending what they find.

When Nick did not show up for work Tuesday afternoon and he could not be contacted by phone, text or email, the station called police, who along with his aunt, responded to his home in the 6900 block of 114th Street.

His aunt gave officers a key to his home around 4 p.m.

“She allowed officers to go in and that’s when they found him deceased inside the house,” Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said.

Nick’s 2009 silver Ford Escape was missing from his house. Police spent the day Tuesday and much of the day Wednesday looking for the vehicle.

Investigators say they do not have any suspects in custody and have not said what, if any, evidence was found in the vehicle.

Nick was last seen Monday night when he left work at the station sometime after 11 p.m. What happened between then and the time officers discovered his body remains unclear.  Police say there was no sign of forced entry into Nick's home.
