KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A frightening situation on Kansas City's east side Monday night left one man dead, and police continue to search for a suspect.
Police said two men were repairing a car outside a home near 7th and Brighton at about 8:15 p.m. when the power went out in the area. When the lights came back on, the two men saw a third man wearing all black and possibly a ski mask approach them with a gun.
Police said the gunman shot and killed one of the men and fled the scene on foot. The suspect was last seen heading west.
The victim was a hispanic in his 20s, according to police.
KCP&L reported 2,500 customers without power but police have not said if it is connected to the shooting.
This is the 16th homicide of 2013, and took place about five blocks south of where two men were found shot to death inside a car last week.
