LEAWOOD, Kan. - Authorities are investigating after a woman told police she was kidnapped near an area hospital, and then forced to withdraw money from the ATM at a nearby bank.
The Overland Park Police Department determined on Friday afternoon that two other robbery incidents in Johnson County are related. In each incident, the three female victims said they were approached by a Hispanic male in his 20s who displayed a handgun.
On Friday morning, a woman said an armed man approached her in the parking lot of Menorah Medical Center, in the 5700 block of W. 119th St., and demanded that she drive to a nearby bank to withdraw the cash.
Police say she is now safe and cooperating with authorities.
The woman said the suspect's head was covered by a baggy white cloth. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s with a stocky build. He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall. The woman said he was wearing a black tight-fitting shirt, possibly long sleeved and baggy shorts.
In the second incident, a female was out running near W. 120th and Roe just before noon when she was confronted by a male who took a handgun from his pants pocket. The suspect ordered her to turn around and walk in a different direction. The victim said she ran into the street and yelled for help, causing the suspect to run away.
The victim said he was wearing an unknown color ball cap and sunglasses.
Around 1 p.m., a third incident took place near 105th and Metcalf when a female was approached by a male with a handgun in a shopping center. The male demanded the victim give him her purse, which she did.
The suspect then demanded the woman get into her vehicle. After refusing to comply, a witness said they saw the suspect running from the scene on foot where he then got into a vehicle waiting nearby.
The suspect in the third case is described as wearing a tight-fitting black shirt similar to the description in the first incident.
There have been no reported injuries from any of the three incidents.
