KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody after bringing a gun to Hogan Preparatory Middle School.
Kansas City police said they found a Glock 19 semi-automatic weapon along with ammunition in the student's backpack Thursday morning before school started.
According to the school principal, rumors started circulating Wednesday that the student was planning to bring a gun to school. Several other students told school officials, who stopped him when he arrived the next morning.
Loukisha Campbell is a Hogan parent. She heard about the incident after picking her son up from school.
"I don't like that. I don't know why (the teen) would bring a gun to school," Campbell said.
Students say there was an altercation between the teen and another student on Wednesday, and they both threatened to bring a gun.
The student who followed through said he brought it for his own protection. He could be suspended for more than a year.
