KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The fate of Eric Bratton went to the hands of a jury Wednesday. Bratton is accused of shooting two teens inside Independence Center in January 2012.
Both the prosecution and defense presented intense closing arguments Wednesday morning.
"Tell Mr. Bratton 'enough is enough,'" District attorney Jean Peters-Baker said passionately. "Convict him."
Attorneys for Bratton insisted he started shooting at Dilon Yates and Rochelle Moore in self-defense.
"The gun came out when he didn't know what was going to happen," public defender Tom Porto said. "The gun came out when he was terrified."
Prosecutors argued Bratton kept picking a fight with Yates and his girlfriend that ended with the shooting.
"The law does not protect you when you create the chaos," Peters-Baker said.
They replayed cellphone video that captured the group confrontation and later the gunshots followed by screams of panic.
Bratton could face more than thirty years in prison if convicted.
