"It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of one of our students... We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends," said a statement released by the school.
Investigators said that the group of people had already left the area when officers arrived.
According to a news conference held by officials Saturday, a party that was broken up at an Independence home was moved to the motel. When the shooting occurred there were about 15 people in the room. There was marijuana and beer present in the motel room. Police are not sure what led to the shooting, but said that all three shooting victims were shot in the head.
