KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kansas City, Kansas Police are investigating a quadruple shooting after two of the victims were taken to a local Pizza Hut.

The shooting occurred around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Police said four men were shot in the communal laundry room at the Royal Ridge Apartments at 73rd and State.

Neighbors who heard the shots said there were too many to count.

"There's a lot of bullets and a lot of blood," said Sgt. Emmett Lockridge.

After the shooting, two of the wounded men were driven to 77th and Parallel and dropped off at the Pizza Hut, where they were found by police. The incident was originally believed to be a double shooting, but police said a third victim was taken to a Missouri hospital, and a fourth to a Kansas hospital Tuesday night.

When police arrived on scene, they said they saw a man running across the street with a handgun in his waistband. Police said they have that man in custody.

One neighbor who lives just feet away from the laundry room was shocked to find a crime scene when she came home.

"I thought it was in my apartment, when I see it roped off," Beverly Thomas said. "I thought it was in my apartment, and the lady I was riding with told me don't get out."

Her 4-year-old granddaughter was in the apartment during the shooting.

"Thank God that He protected me and my family," Thomas said.

At least one of the victims is in critical condition. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
