KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A woman is accused in a shooting caught on a surveillance camera outside a Kansas City convenience store.
Prosecutors charged Tyisha Ortega, 24, of Kansas City with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
The shooting occurred Dec. 30 at 7003 Prospect Avenue. Court documents show a security guard told Ortega to leave the store after she got upset at another person in the store. Ortega allegedly pulled out a .40-caliber handgun and threatened the guard, according to the documents.
Authorities said she walked across the parking lot and fired four to five shots at the guard. There were others in the parking lot and the guard told police he feared for his life and for those in the lot with him, so he returned fire, according to court documents.
Police arrested Ortega Wednesday and questioned her early Thursday.
According to court documents, she admitted she carried the gun in her pants and said she fired the gun in the air, but not at the guard.
