KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A 42-year-old Kansas City woman was charged Monday with assaulting her son’s girlfriend with brass knuckles containing a built-in knife blade.
Vera Adams was charged with assault in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon.
According to court records, Adams was unhappy that her son's girlfriend had returned Adams' vehicle later than Adams expected.
When the younger woman returned the car and began to remove her 11-month-old child from the back-seat child-safety seat on Sunday, Adams allegedly began to strike both the woman and the infant, knocking them to the ground. The victim told police Adams then struck her in the head with brass knuckles that had a built-in knife, saying “I got you; I got you,” before driving off.
The victim suffered a 10-inch-long cut running from her forehead to her chin that will require plastic surgery to repair.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $75,000.
