INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Independence School District has announced Dr. Dale Herl will be the district’s next superintendent.
Herl has been the district’s Deputy Superintendent since 2009. He replaces Dr. Jim Hinson, who is leaving to take the same position in the Shawnee Mission, Kan., School District on July 1.
“We feel very fortunate that we had an extraordinarily strong candidate who has already shown great leadership ability here in the Independence School District,” said Ann Franklin, President of the Independence School District Board of Education. “Dr. Herl has proven to be very committed to our district and to the community.”
“The Board is confident that Dr. Herl is the right person to lead the district and build on the solid foundation that Dr. Hinson has put in place.”
In a statement announcing the promotion, the district applauded Herl’s work overseeing the district’s finances and operations the last four years.
“I could not believe more strongly in the Independence School District,” Herl said, “and am honored to lead what I consider to be the most talented and motivated staff in the metropolitan area.”
Herl said Hinson will be hard to replace, but “I consider myself lucky to have worked with him side-by-side for the past several years.”
