KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Dr. Covington is banking on an ambitious new curriculum to turn around the Kansas City School District’s dismal academic performance.

The program is known as Standards Based Education, although locally the district will refer to it as Standards Based Systems (SBS).

Watch video of Dr. Covington's remarks on SBS in the video player at the upper-left of this page.

Although it’s new to KC, SBS has been practiced in the Adams County School District 50 just outside of Denver for two years.   Check out their program - click here .

Like Kansas City, the Adams 50 District was struggling.

SBS does not use grades to measure academic achievement, and students are allowed to progress at their own rate.

Is it working?  Dr. Pam Swanson, the Deputy Superintendent for the Adams 50 School District, shares her thoughts which you can watch in the video player at the upper-left of this page.
