LATHROP, Mo. - A rash of students and staff reporting flu-like symptoms has forced an area school district to cancel classes on Friday.
Officials with the Lathrop School District notified parents that on Thursday, nearly 25 percent of students and staff at the elementary school reported they felt ill with flu-like symptoms.
The district plans to use custodial staff at the elementary, middle and high schools to use Friday, Saturday and Sunday to clean and disinfect the schools.
The basketball games scheduled for Thursday night remain as scheduled, though the third- and fifth-grade programs have been canceled.
