JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A St. Louis educator was named Missouri's teacher of the year this weekend.
Cathy Cartier teaches English at Afton High School. She was given the honor Friday at a ceremony in Jefferson City.
Cartier beat out five other finalists from around the state - including 3 from in the Kansas City area.
She replaces Lee's Summit elementary teacher Kristen Merrill, who took home the award last year .
Kansas names its teacher of the year in November. Last year, Tiffany Richard, a high school science teacher at Olathe East High School, was the winner .
