PARK HILL, Mo. - A member of the Park Hill, Mo., school board has resigned after bringing a concealed handgun to a school board meeting.

The district approved Fred Sanchez’ resignation, effective immediately, at a special meeting Tuesday night.

Sanchez says he was running late last week and forgot he had the weapon on him.

The Park Hill School District has a zero tolerance policy for concealed weapons.

Sanchez was first elected to the school board in 2005, and won reelection in 2011. He was supposed to serve through 2015.

The district will appoint a replacement until an election next April.
