KANSAS CITY Mo. - Here's a look at back to school dates for districts in the Kansas City area.
The Kansas City, Kan., School District held its first day today, Friday, Aug. 10, for students in grade K-6 and grade 9. The remaining grades start Monday, Aug. 13.

KANSAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS
The Shawnee Mission schools start classes in grades 1-7 and grade 9 on Monday, Aug. 13, with grades 1-12 in session Tuesday, Aug, 14, and kindergarteners joining in starting Wednesday, Aug. 15.
The first day of class for students in the Gardner-Edgerton School District is Aug. 13.
Tuesday, Aug. 14, is the first day for the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Unified School District #204.
The Blue Valley School District holds a two-hour orientation for students in grades 6 and 9 on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Class begins for students in all grades, K-12, the following day.
In the Olathe School District, students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend a half-day of classes on Wednesday, Aug. 15, with all grades (K-12) having their first full day of classes Thursday, Aug. 16.
In the Spring Hill School District, the first day for students in preschool through grade 9 is Aug. 15. For sophomore, junior and senior high school students, the first day is Aug. 16.
The De Soto, Kan., School District is the last one on the Kansas side of the metro area to get started this year. The first day for students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 is Wednesday, Aug. 22. All students will be expected in class on Thursday, Aug. 23.
MISSOURI SCHOOL DISTRICTS
On the Missouri side, the Kansas City Public Schools start back in Monday, Aug. 13.
The Center Schools start Tuesday, Aug. 14, with a half-day of classes for students in grades K-5 and a full day of class for students in grades 6-9. Wednesday, Aug. 15, is the first full day of class for all students, including high schoolers.
The Hickman Mills School District starts class for all students on Wednesday, Aug. 15, although there will be an early dismissal.
The following districts will open classes with a full day for all students on Wednesday, Aug. 15: Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Harrisonville, Lee’s Summit, Liberty, Park Hill and Raymore-Peculiar. The Independence schools open Aug. 15 for all but kindergarteners, who start the following day.
The Belton, Grandview, Kearney R-I, Midway-Cass, North Platte R-1, Oak Grove R-VI, Platte County R -3 and Smithville school districts begin holding classes for all students Thursday, Aug. 16.
Raytown Schools get under way Monday, Aug. 20.
And finally the North Kansas City School District brings up the rear on the Missouri side, getting class under way on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
