LENEXA, Kansas - A local high school science teacher is honored for his work in the classroom.
Students at St. James Academy in Lenexa stood and cheered as Jeremy Way was presented with the Educating Excellence award.
Perceptive Software and the University of Kansas handed him a $1,500 dollar check.
Along with teaching Chemistry and Physics, Way is also the Science Olympiad coach.
In his second year coaching, St. James Academy won the state tournament and advanced to the national competition.
"People that have had my classes have said they're always tough and despite complaints about test grades and all those other things it just sort of helps back up that I'm doing it the right way,” said Way.
A total of nine teachers will be recognized through the academic year.
