Eating out offers us a chance to eat delicious food that someone else prepares, but many dishes are unhealthy and can pack on the pounds. A new list singles out some of the worst waistline offenders.

It's called Extreme Eating 2013, a report card listing some of the highest calorie, unhealthy restaurant foods available in America.

It’s compiled by the advocacy group The Center for Science in the Public Interest, and it shows it's more than desserts that we need to be scrutinizing. Breakfast fare, pasta dishes, burgers, and even smoothies are filling us up and out.

Some examples include:

-  IHOP's Country Fried Steak and Eggs has 1,760 calories, 23 grams of saturated fat and way too much salt and sugar.

-  The Cheesecake Factory's Bistro Shrimp Pasta contains 3,120 calories, according to the report. That’s more calories than many people need to get them through a day and a half.

-  Maggiano's Veal Porterhouse Steak has more than 1,900 calories and that's before you add the side dishes that come with the meat.

IHOP had this statement in response to the report:

"Our menu also features a complete selection of "Simple & Fit" items, all of which are under 600 calories."

The Cheesecake Factory did not get back to CNN in time for this report.

Maggiano's parent company told CNN that their dishes "are served in generous portions, perfect for sharing or enjoying later at home,” and added that the CSPI results were higher than their findings.

Chain restaurant menus will soon be required to post calorie counts on their menus.
