KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Merle Zuel could barely walk. That's how sick he was in 1996 when he came to St. Luke's Hospital with congestive heart failure. His best chance for survival was to get a new heart.
Zuel's new heart came four years ago. On Thursday, he celebrated with other transplant survivors at a special holiday party thrown by St. Luke's Hospital.
Both the transplant recipients and their doctors used the occasion to promote organ donation. They said the people in the room were living proof of how organ donors save lives.
