KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Scratch Joe Reardon off the list of contenders for the Third Congressional seat in Kansas.
The leader of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan., said Friday he won't be a candidate to replace long-time Congressman Dennis Moore, also a Democrat.
Reardon said in a release that he made his decision after consulting with his family.
"In light of the national recession and its impact on our community, I must remain focused on finishing the work we've started to help Wyandotte County and our region overcome the challenges the ongoing economic crisis has created."
His predecessor Carol Marinovich also isn't running. Political observers had thought both would be the best candidate for the Democrats in a Republican leaning district, however, others thought a strong Johnson County Democrat remains the best shot. National political pundits predict the winner of the Republican primary almost certainly will succeed Moore.
