KANSAS CITY, Missouri - At the age of 12, Sha'drea Bazart was an honor roll student at Pathway Academy, who was known for her ambition, drive and contagious laugh. Her mother, Shaytanya Bazart, says she could do just about anything, but swim.
"She could not swim at all; none of us know how to swim. She wouldn't jump into a swimming pool, let alone jump into a lake," said Bazart.
On June 19, Father's Day, Sha'drea was spending time with her dad's family on Lake Waukomis, when she somehow got into the water and went under. According to police, Sha'drea was in the water for 10 to 15 minutes before the police chief found her.
"Whoever she was at the lake with was being negligent, and they don't want to be held responsible for my daughter's death," said Bazart.
Now Shaytanya Bazart wants to know how her daughter got into the lake, and why it took so long for someone to save her.
The Waukomis Police tell us they do not suspect foul play in the drowning.
