KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On the one-year anniversary of an arson fire at a landmark Kansas City steak house, investigators have released a new photo of a possible suspect and announced a new reward.
The new surveillance picture is in addition to the photos released by investigators after fire gutted the Hereford House, 2 East 20th St., in the early morning hours October 20th, 2008.
Also on Tuesday, the ATF announced an increased reward to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.
The Hereford House's owner declined an NBC Action News interview request on the one-year anniversary of the fire.
Officials originally declared the owner Rod Anderson cooperative, but in February the ATF announced Anderson had acquired legal counsel and not spoken with investigators.
The man in the newly released surveillance photo is a different person than the person captured in previously released photos.
The heavy set man in the new photo is standing in the bar area of the restaurant and is wearing what appears to be overalls and a ball cap.
Surveillance photos previously released appear to show a slighter-built man wearing glasses.
Officials had previously identified the blaze's cause as gasoline-ignited arson.
The ATF’s National Response Team, the Kansas City Police Bomb and Arson Unit and the Kansas City Fire Department are investigating the fire.
“The investigation is progressing due to the efforts of all the agencies involved,” said Michael Boxler, Special Agent in Charge of ATF’s Kansas City Division. “We are continuing to pursue ongoing leads and ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual in the photograph being released today.”
If you can identify the men in the photos, or know anything about what happened at the restaurant last year, you’re urged to call the local ATF office at 816-559-0850, ATF’s toll free hotline, 1-888-ATF-FIRE (888-283-3473) or Kansas City Crime Stoppers hotline at 816-474-TIPS (816-474-8477).
The phone lines are answered 24 hours a day and all calls remain confidential.
