KANSAS CITY, Kansas - It’s a day many thought would never come for Horace Mann Elementary School.  Many gave up hope for the abandoned school house when an arsonist set it afire on December 2.  The fire caused part of the building to collapse.  But thanks to a Thursday decision by the Kansas Historical Society, Horace Mann joins seven other locations across the state on the Kansas Historical Registry.

According to the Associated Press, other sites include the Motive Power Building in Topeka; Kansas City, Kan., High School gymnasium and laboratory; Winfield National Bank in Winfield; Church of the Holy Name in Topeka; the John C. Harmon House in Topeka; Rocky Ford School in Manhattan; and Peabody City Park, Peabody.
